Biography

Born in Fiesole, he got his degree in singing at the Conservatorio “L. Cherubini” in Florence. He attended the Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro under Alberto Zedda, making his debut at the Rossini Opera Festival in Il viaggio a Reims (Cavalier Belfiore).

As a Rossini specialist, he sang: Cenerentola (Don Ramiro) at the Staatsoper Hamburg, Finnish National Opera and in Rovigo; Il turco in Italia (Don Narciso) in Pesaro, at the Staatsoper unter den Linden in Berlin and at the Staatsoper Hamburg; Tancredi (Argirio) at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Théâtre Royal de Versailles, Théâtre Municipal de Tourcoing and at Nationaltheater in Mannheim; Il barbiere di Siviglia (Conte d’Almaviva) in Venice, Montpellier, at the Novaya Opera in Moscow, at the Shanghai Oriental National Center of Performing Arts, in Palermo, St. Gallen, Theater Osnabrück, on tour with Teatro Regio di Torino, in Treviso, Ferrara and Florence; Il viaggio a Reims (Conte Libenskof) in Helsinki, Pesaro and Florence; La gazza ladra (Giannetto) in Bologna and Reggio Emilia; Mosè in Egitto (Osiride) in Rome and Wildbad, L’occasione fa il ladro (Conte Alberto) in Ravenna, Treviso and Reggio Emilia; Otello(Rodrigo) in Wildbad; La scala di seta (Dorvil) in Tirana, Scutari and Durazzo; Il signor Bruschino (Florville) a Wildbad; L’Italiana in Algeri (Lindoro) at the Slovene National Theatre in Maribor.

Extremely active also on the concert platform, his wide repertoire includes: Rossini’s Stabat Mater at the Kioi Hall di Tokyo; Rossini’s Messa di Gloria in Beirut with the Lebanese Philarmonic Orchestra; Naumann’s Messen. 19 in Dresden; Rossini songs at the Grosser Sall Die Glocke for Musikfest Bremen; Schubert’s Mass in E-flat major, D 950 at Teatro Verdi in Florence; Carmina Burana in Genova and Mumbai with the Symphony Orchestra of India; Mozart’s Krönungsmesse with the Orchestra Regionale Toscana; Schubert’s Messa in Sol maggiore in Padova; Monteverdi’s Salve Regina in Cape Town and Pretoria; Mozart’s Litanie Lauretane in Jesi; Stravinskji’s Pulcinella in Bologna, Wexford, at Teatro della Pergola in Florence and at Teatro dei Rinnovati in Siena.

His recording include: Handel’s Fernando (Virgin); Meyerbeer’s Semiramide, Rossini’s Mosè in Egitto, Otello and Il signor Bruschino, Vaccaj’s La sposa di Messina (Naxos); Coccia’s Arrighetto (Bongiovanni); Galuppi’s Olimpiade, Cavalli’s Le virtù de’ strali d’amore and Il GiasoneIl turco in Italia (Dynamic); Stravinskji’s Pulcinellaand Arlecchino (Ermitage); “A taste of Rossini” for ARTE with the Deutschen Radio Philarmonie Saarbruecken conducted by C.
