Biography

Born in Rome, he graduated in piano, composition, choral music and conducting at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory. He then specialized with Zoltan Pesko, Vladimir Delman and Rudolf Barshai, winning the third prize at the Arturo Toscanini Competition in Parma.

From 1995 to 2001 he has been Musical Director of the Opera house in Ankara, having then the same position in Istanbul from 2001 to 2005.

He has conducted in many important Opera Houses in Italy and abroad: New National Theatre in Tokyo (Japan), Teatro Saõ Carlos in Lisbon (Portugal), Teatro Colon di Buenos Aires (Argentina), Tessisches Staatstheater in Wiesbaden (Germany), Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova, Teatro Bellini in Catania.

Vanta un vasto repertorio, con una predilezione per l’Ottocento Italiano e l’Opera Francesce non senza frequenti incursioni in Puccini e nel repertorio sinfonico.

Among his most important engagements we can remember: Lucia di Lammermoor in Ankara, Bucarest, Istanbul and Buenos Aires; La Gioconda at Festival de Santander; Tabarro and Pagliacci in Ankara; Andrea Chénier at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin; Macbeth in Lisbon, Aida in Istanbul, Copenhagen, Caracalla; Il Trovatore in Ankara, at Teatro Bellini in Catania; La Sonnambula in Ankara; Tosca in Ankara, Trapani, Jesi and Florence; Turandot in Ankara, Copenhagen, Istanbul, at the Arena di Verona and in Catania; Verdi’s Aroldo at Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao; Ernani in Catania and for As.Li.Co.; Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Ankara, Tokyo, Valencia and Verona; Carmen in Copenhagen and Avanches; La Bohéme in Ankara, Istanbul, Tokyo and Santander; Un Ballo in Maschera in Ankara, Istanbul, Salerno and Lisbon; Madama Butterfly in Ancona, Costanza, Ankara; Die Fledermaus in Ankara; Medea for As.Li.Co.; Norma in Trapani; Figlia del Reggimento in Ankara; Attila in Lecce and Rome; Anna Bolena in Catania; Otello in Ankara and Lisbon; Manon Lescaut in Torre del Lago; Traviata in Istanbul; Nabucco in Rovigo, Padova, Caracalla and Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos in Lisbon; Don Giovanni in Istanbul; L’Elisir d’Amore in Cosenza; Rigoletto in Tokyo; Falstaff at the Shanghai Opera House.
