Biography

Born in Bistrita (Romania) he got his degree at the “Gheorghe Dima” Musical Academy in Cluj Napoca. He has won several International Competitions as: “Sigismund Toduta”, “Hariclea Darclée”, “Martian Negrea”, “Ion Perlea”, “Sabin Dragoi”, International Music Competition in Seoul, First prize and audience prize at the “Operalia” Competition.

He immediately started a brillant career singing: Il matrimonio segreto (Paolino) at the Hungarian Opera in Cluj-Napoca; L’elisir d’amore (Nemorino) at the Romanian National Opera in Timisoara, Trieste, Hamburg, Covent Garden in London, Bucharest National Opera; La traviata (Alfredo) at the Rome Opera, at the Greek National Opera, at the Wiener Staatsoper, in Trieste, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Genova, Palermo, Bucharest, Tel-Aviv, Naples, Malta, Taormina, at La Fenice in Venice, at Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania in a film versione for Sky Classica HD; La sonnambula (Elvino) at the Wiener Staatsoper; Otello (Cassio) at the Zurich Opernhaus; Rigoletto (Duca di Mantova) in Seoul, at the Royal Opera House in London, at the Opéra de Paris, in Sanxay, Naples, Novara, Palermo and Turin directed by John Turturro and in Bologna; Gounod’s Faust in Bucharest, at Opera Rijeka in Croatia, at the Hong Kong Cultural Center and in Oviedo; Der Rosenkavalier (Ein Sänger) at the Salzburg Festival, in Strasbourg and Zurich; Don Giovanni (Don Ottavio) at the Opéra Bastille in Paris; La bohème (Rodolfo) at the Salle Pleyel in Paris, in Parma, Singapore, Taiwan, in Palermo conducted by Daniel Oren, at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago, in Genova and Liège; Norma (Pollione) in Naples, Madrid, Otsu, Genova, Venice; Roberto Devereux in Genova and Parma; Attila in Venice; Lucia di Lammermoor (Edgardo) and Simon Boccanegra (Gabriele Adorno) in Bologna; Madama Butterfly (Pinkerton) in Genova and at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago; Il castello di Kenilworth (Warney) conducted by Riccardo Frizza at the Donizetti Festival in Bergamo; I due Foscari at the Verdi Festival in Parma; Lucrezia Borgia at Teatro Verdi in Trieste; Nabucco (Ismaele) conducted by Donato Renzetti at Teatro Regio in Turin.

He has worked with such important conductors as: Andrea Battistoni, Bruno Campanella, Fabrizio Maria Carminati, Riccardo Frizza, Daniele Gatti, Marko Letonja, Jesus López-Cobos, Fabio Luisi, Michele Mariotti, Zubin Mehta, Pier Giorgio Morandi, Daniel Oren, Evelino Pidò, Stefano Ranzani, Donato Renzetti, Nello Santi, Simone Young, Omer Wellber.

His active presence on the concert platform has seen him perform the world premiere of Gyorgy Kurtag‘s Colinda balada op. 46 with the Transilvania Philharmonic Orchestra in Cluj-Napoca and with Romania’s most imporant symphonic orchestras (Bucharest, Targu Mures, Iasi, Timisoara, Oradea). He has also appeared in concerts with Angela Gheorghiu in Seoul and Shanghai and recently opened the Symphonic season at La Fenice in Venice.

Among his recent and future engagements: Rigoletto in Modena and Taormina conducted by Placido Domingo; Norma (Pollione) at Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania (broadcast live on RAI5) and at Teatro Regio in Parma; La bohème (Rodolfo) with Angela Gheorghiu at Teatro Massimo in Palermo; ToscaLa bohème (Rodolfo) and Rigoletto (Duca di Mantova) conducted by Antonio Pappano at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London; Madama Butterfly and La bohème at the Berliner Staatsoper; Lucrezia Borgia at Teatro Comunale in Bologna and in Budapest.
